Plate code

LGB Plate Number Meaning: Ayedire, Osun

The LGB plate number is registered in Ayedire Local Government Area, Osun. Those three letters record where the vehicle was first put on the road — not who drives it, and not where it is today.

Nigerian number plate with the LGB code — Ayedire, Osun
A plate issued in Ayedire carries the LGB code. The characters after it are a sample, not a real registration.

LGB is the Ayedire code, administered from Ile-Ogbo. The 2006 census put 76,309 residents on 262 km², near 291 for every square kilometre. Codes belong to districts rather than to vehicles, so thousands of unrelated cars carry these same three letters.

What the LGB Code Does and Does Not Tell You

A Nigerian plate carries the code of the local government area that issued the registration, so LGB places the paperwork in Ayedire. It does not follow the car afterwards: a vehicle sold across state lines keeps its plate until it is re-registered, which is why a LGB plate away from Osun is a question for the seller rather than a finding in itself.

The letters also say nothing about the holder, the model or the history of the vehicle. Colours and special series are a separate system, explained on the code hub; what the car itself has been through — auction lots, damage, mileage at sale — is recorded against its VIN and travels with the car even when the plate changes.

Questions about the LGB plate number

What does the LGB plate number mean?

LGB is the registration code of Ayedire Local Government Area in Osun. A vehicle wearing it was registered there; the three digits after the letters are its serial inside that LGA, and the last two letters are the series.

Which state is a LGB plate number from?

Osun. The code identifies the local government area — Ayedire — and the state is printed on the plate in words above the number.

Have a whole LGB plate, not just the code?

The lookup takes the full plate and returns the local government area behind it. For the history of the vehicle — auction records, damage, mileage and photographs — check it by VIN.
