KED Plate Number Meaning: Ikeduru, Imo

The KED plate number is registered in Ikeduru Local Government Area, Imo. Those three letters record where the vehicle was first put on the road — not who drives it, and not where it is today.

Nigerian number plate with the KED code — Ikeduru, Imo
A plate issued in Ikeduru carries the KED code. The characters after it are a sample, not a real registration.

KED is the Ikeduru code, run from Iho. Nigerian plates carry the local government area in their first three letters, then digits, then a closing pair. Only the first group can be looked up, and it answers a single question: where the vehicle was entered on the register, not who keeps it now.

What the KED Code Does and Does Not Tell You

A Nigerian plate carries the code of the local government area that issued the registration, so KED places the paperwork in Ikeduru. It does not follow the car afterwards: a vehicle sold across state lines keeps its plate until it is re-registered, which is why a KED plate away from Imo is a question for the seller rather than a finding in itself.

The letters also say nothing about the holder, the model or the history of the vehicle. Colours and special series are a separate system, explained on the code hub; what the car itself has been through — auction lots, damage, mileage at sale — is recorded against its VIN and travels with the car even when the plate changes.

Questions about the KED plate number

What does the KED plate number mean?

KED is the registration code of Ikeduru Local Government Area in Imo. A vehicle wearing it was registered there; the three digits after the letters are its serial inside that LGA, and the last two letters are the series.

Which state is a KED plate number from?

Imo. The code identifies the local government area — Ikeduru — and the state is printed on the plate in words above the number.

Have a whole KED plate, not just the code?

The lookup takes the full plate and returns the local government area behind it. For the history of the vehicle — auction records, damage, mileage and photographs — check it by VIN.
