Plate code

BER Plate Number Meaning: Omuma, Rivers

The BER plate number is registered in Omuma Local Government Area, Rivers. Those three letters record where the vehicle was first put on the road — not who drives it, and not where it is today.

Nigerian number plate with the BER code — Omuma, Rivers
A plate issued in Omuma carries the BER code. The characters after it are a sample, not a real registration.

BER marks Omuma. The 2006 census put 100,366 residents on 170 km², near 590 for every square kilometre. A plate lookup returns the district and the state behind three letters — the register publishes no owners, and no part of a plate encodes one.

What the BER Code Does and Does Not Tell You

A Nigerian plate carries the code of the local government area that issued the registration, so BER places the paperwork in Omuma. It does not follow the car afterwards: a vehicle sold across state lines keeps its plate until it is re-registered, which is why a BER plate away from Rivers is a question for the seller rather than a finding in itself.

The letters also say nothing about the holder, the model or the history of the vehicle. Colours and special series are a separate system, explained on the code hub; what the car itself has been through — auction lots, damage, mileage at sale — is recorded against its VIN and travels with the car even when the plate changes.

Questions about the BER plate number

What does the BER plate number mean?

BER is the registration code of Omuma Local Government Area in Rivers. A vehicle wearing it was registered there; the three digits after the letters are its serial inside that LGA, and the last two letters are the series.

Which state is a BER plate number from?

Rivers. The code identifies the local government area — Omuma — and the state is printed on the plate in words above the number.

Have a whole BER plate, not just the code?

The lookup takes the full plate and returns the local government area behind it. For the history of the vehicle — auction records, damage, mileage and photographs — check it by VIN.
